What We Do

Our projects

Transforming Communities, One Step at a Time

At SMADO, we believe that real change happens when communities are empowered with the right tools, knowledge, and resources. Our work focuses on sustainable development, human rights, environmental conservation, peacebuilding, and disaster response. We take a holistic approach to solving the challenges faced by marginalized communities, ensuring that our programs address both immediate needs and long-term solutions.

Each of our programs is carefully designed to create lasting impact and improve the lives of individuals and families across Kenya and beyond.

Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods

Economic stability is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. At SMADO, we provide:
Vocational Training & Skills Development – We equip unemployed youth and marginalized communities with job-ready skills in fields such as carpentry, tailoring, agribusiness, and digital marketing.
Microfinance & Business Grants – We offer financial support to small businesses, especially women-led enterprises, helping them become self-reliant.
Entrepreneurship Programs – We provide business mentorship, startup funding, and networking opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Impact: Over 200+ small businesses launched and 500+ individuals trained in vocational skills.

Education & Scholarships

Education is a powerful tool for change, yet many children in underserved regions lack access to quality schooling. SMADO is dedicated to:
Building & Renovating Schools – We construct classrooms, libraries, and sanitation facilities in marginalized areas.
Scholarship Programs – We provide tuition assistance, uniforms, and school supplies to children from low-income families.
Teacher Training & Support – We equip educators with modern teaching methodologies and resources to improve learning outcomes.

Impact: 500+ children have received scholarships, and 3 schools have been built or renovated in remote areas.

Women’s Rights & Gender Equality

Women and girls face unique challenges, including discrimination, gender-based violence, and limited access to leadership roles. SMADO is actively working to:
Support Women’s Leadership – We train and mentor women in leadership, governance, and economic empowerment.
End Gender-Based Violence (GBV) – We conduct awareness campaigns and provide support services for survivors of domestic violence, child marriage, and female genital mutilation (FGM).
Promote Women’s Economic Independence – Through financial literacy programs and small business grants, we empower women to achieve financial stability.

Impact: Over 300+ women have received leadership and business training, and awareness campaigns have reached 5,000+ individuals.

Environmental Conservation & Sustainability

Environmental degradation threatens livelihoods and ecosystems. Our conservation efforts include:
Reforestation & Afforestation – We plant thousands of trees to restore degraded landscapes and combat climate change.
Biodiversity Protection – We engage local communities in conservation projects to protect endangered species and ecosystems.
Sustainable Agriculture – We promote climate-smart farming techniques to improve food security while protecting natural resources.

Impact: 10,000+ trees planted and 5 community conservation projects launched.

Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution

Conflicts over land, resources, and political differences continue to divide communities. SMADO works to:
Facilitate Dialogue & Reconciliation – We bring together different community groups to resolve disputes peacefully.
Address the Root Causes of Conflict – We provide training on conflict resolution, mediation, and community leadership.
Youth & Community Engagement – We empower young people as peace ambassadors and conflict mediators.

Impact: 3 major community conflicts resolved and hundreds of youth trained in peacebuilding.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation leads to disease and hardship. SMADO’s WASH initiatives include:
Water Infrastructure Projects – We build boreholes, wells, and rainwater harvesting systems in water-scarce regions.
Sanitation & Hygiene Education – We train communities on proper sanitation, menstrual hygiene, and disease prevention.
Waste Management & Clean-Up Campaigns – We support community-led efforts to keep neighborhoods clean and safe.

Impact: 5,000+ people now have access to clean drinking water through SMADO projects.

Disaster Relief & Humanitarian Assistance

In times of crisis, SMADO provides life-saving aid and long-term recovery solutions. Our disaster response efforts include:
Emergency Relief Distribution – We provide food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to disaster victims.
Long-Term Recovery & Reconstruction – We help rebuild schools, homes, and businesses affected by disasters.
Community Disaster Preparedness – We train communities on emergency response and risk mitigation strategies.

Impact: Thousands of families assisted during floods, droughts, and other emergencies.
